Two Eagles Shine Under the Lights Against #14 Southeastern
By Monte Perez
The University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles traveled to take on #14 Southeastern University Saturday night in a game played under the lights. Although the Eagles came away with a loss, several UFTL players delivered exceptional individual performances and continued to show the growth and toughness of this young team.
Defensive Player of the Game: #33 Donte "Tank" Mason
Senior linebacker #33 Donte "Tank" Mason turned in an outstanding performance, finishing the game with 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.
Tank is beginning to find his rhythm as the season progresses. He currently ranks third on the team in tackles with 22 and continues to play an important role in helping the Eagles' defensive coordinators communicate and execute the defensive game plan.
Mason is on pace to finish the season with close to 100 tackles, and he has established himself as a tremendous run stopper on the defensive side of the ball. His instincts, football intelligence and ability to make plays continue to make him one of the Eagles' most valuable defensive assets.
For the second consecutive week, junior wide receiver #5 Loriston Jr. Davidson has been named the Eagles' Offensive Player of the Week.
Davidson finished the game with 6 receptions for 51 yards, including an impressive touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone.
The junior receiver has established himself as an explosive dual threat for the Eagles. Davidson can make plays over the middle of the field or use his speed to beat defenders down the sideline.
Through the first part of the season, Davidson has recorded 22 receptions for more than 300 yards and continues to emerge as one of the Eagles' biggest offensive weapons.
With his current production, Davidson has a legitimate opportunity to reach 1,000 receiving yards, a mark that would establish a new school record for UFTL football.
