FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (10-17-20206)— The final score read 28-12, but it hardly told the whole story. On Saturday afternoon, the University of Fort Lauderdale (UFTL) Eagles put on a football clinic, dismantling the Atlantis Atlanteans in a game that was entirely decided long before the final whistle blew. From the very first snap, the Eagles established total dominance , leaving Atlantis searching for answers.
Lightning Fast Start
UFTL wasted absolutely no time setting the tone. On the game's first possession quarterback
Koden Brown (#12) unleashed a dynamic, 81-yard touchdown bomb to
Quentin Toussaint (#9), instantly putting the Eagles ahead.
Before Atlantis could even recover from the shock, the UFTL special teams unit struck. On the ensuing kickoff,
Schneider Maccenat (#13) pounced on a loose ball, recovering an Atlantis miscue deep inside their own 20-yard line.
Capitalizing immediately on the short field, Brown dropped a perfectly placed pass into the back corner of the end zone to
Loriston Jr. Davidson (#5) for another quick score. Davidson would finish the afternoon as the game's primary aerial weapon, racking up a team-high 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The first-half onslaught was capped off by a spectacular 31-yard touchdown sprint by
DeRohn King, sending the Eagles into the locker room with a commanding 21-0 halftime lead.
Defense Shuts the Door
While the offense generated the early fireworks, the UFTL defense provided the muscle. The Eagles' defensive unit stifled the Atlanteans all day, surrendering a meager 153 yards of total offense.
Leading the ferocious defensive effort was "Tank" Mason (#33), who lived up to his nickname by recording a team-high eight tackles.
Mike Kelly (#10) also disrupted the Atlantis game plan throughout the afternoon, anchoring the secondary and chipping in five tackles.
Road Warriors Ahead
With a decisive victory under their belts, the Eagles must now prepare to take their show on the road. UFTL will spend the next two weeks traveling, beginning with a trip to Alabama to take on Faulkner University. Following that, the Eagles will head north for a Halloween showdown against Chicago State on October 31st.
If Saturday's performance was any indication, the Eagles are peaking at the exact right time for a tough road stretch.
