The only coach to lead the University of Fort Lauderdale Men’s Basketball program, Anthony Anderson enters his third year at UFTL with a 17-18 record leading the Eagles.

During the 2021-22 season, UFTL’s first season as members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Anderson guided the Eagles to the NCCAA Division I Independent Tournament, winning the first postseason game in school history via a 78-71 overtime triumph against Ecclesia College in the opening round of the Regionals.

The Eagles were one of the top rebounding teams in the NCCAA during their inaugural year, boasting the fifth-highest average in the league at 40.0 with 14.1 coming off the offensive glass which ranked second. Defensively, UFTL stifled its opposition during the 2021-22 campaign behind 4.71 blocks and 9.65 steals, ranking second and fourth within the NCCAA respectively.

Individually, Kaysean Smith led the Association with a blocks per game average of 2.2 with 54 total that ranked third while Andre Anderson recorded an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.0 which placed eighth.

In his first year, he led the Eagles to a 2-1 record. The season was cut short due to covid-19.

Before UFTL, Anderson served as head men’s basketball coach at Broward College during his two seasons; his teams had a record of 33-22 for a .600 winning percentage.

He had multiple student-athletes receive All-Conference honors. Anderson led the Seahawks to the school’s first State Tournament appearance in over five years.

Anderson spent time as an assistant coach for Central Connecticut State University prior to taking over at Broward College. Before coming to CCSU, Anderson joined the Lamar University coaching staff in 2014-15. He was instrumental in helping the Cardinals post 15 wins in his first season with the program, an 11-win improvement over the previous season. He also helped mentor the 2014-15 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year. Three student-athletes earned All-Southland Conference recognition during his two seasons at LU.

Anderson was the associate head coach at Florida International University under NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas. He helped sign the nation’s 30th-ranked recruiting class according to Hoop Scoop, Inc. During his tenure at the University of Miami; He helped assemble a 2003 class that received top-10 recognition from Street & Smith’s. A combined five different players from those classes were either drafted or signed via free agency by NBA franchises.

In addition to achieving success on the court, Anderson has helped foster an outstanding commitment to academics producing successful individuals in the classroom. During his time at Southern Methodist University, the men’s basketball team posted an 89 percent graduation success rate among the nation’s top 10 percent for men’s basketball programs and ranked second among all Conference USA schools.

Anderson has two years of head coaching experience at the NAIA level, leading Dillard University in New Orleans. He directed the Bleu Devils from 2006-08 before taking a position on the staff at Texas Christian University.

He has over 25 years of coaching experience with 22 seasons served at the NCAA Division I level. He is also the founder of the AAU teams, the Louisiana Bluechips and Lady Bluechips.

Anderson received his bachelor’s degree from McNeese State in 1995. He played two seasons for the Cowboys after graduating from Iowa Lakes Community College. He is a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and Slidell, La.
