Bert Hill comes to the University of Fort Lauderdale as defensive line coach after spending last season coaching the defensive line for the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL with head coach Marc Trestman and defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville. Hill brings more than four decades of coaching experience from Middle School, High School, Division I, Division II, NFL, CFL and XFL to the Eagles.

At the halfway mark of the COVID shortened season, the Vipers were #1 in the league in rushing yards at 76 yds per game and 2nd in the league in passing, allowing just 183 yds per game.

In 2018 Hill was with the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, coaching the defensive line with head coach Mike Sherman. 

Prior to the CFL, Hill was coaching the defensive line at West Texas A&M with head coach Mike Nesbitt. He also coached the defensive line and served as the powerlifting coach at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas, with head coach Kendall Miller.

In 2008 Hill was coaching in the NCAA for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs in Dallas, Texas, with head coach June Jones as the defensive line coach for seven seasons. He helped his team play in four Bowl games, developing several players who broke into the NFL. 

Hill joined the Dolphins coaching staff and head coach Nick Saban in 2005 & 2006 as the strength and conditioning coach after spending four years as the Director of Endorsements for AdvoCare International, located in Carrollton, Texas. Prior to AdvoCare, He coached in the National Football League from 1990 until 2000 with the Detroit Lions and head coaches Wayne Fontes and Bobby Ross. Hill was the strength & conditioning coach for the Detroit Lions for eleven seasons from 1990 until 2000.

During his time in Detroit, Hill served as assistant defensive line coach from 1990 to 1994 with Lamar Leachman and from 1995 to 1996 with John Teerlinck and as an assistant offensive line coach in 1997-98 with Jack Henry top of his responsibilities as strength and conditioning coach.

Hill boasts an extensive collegiate resume, having served as head strength & conditioning coach from 1984 to 87 and 1989 at Texas A&M University with head coaches Jackie Sherrill and R.C. Slocum and as head strength & conditioning coach in 1988 at The Ohio State University with head coach John Cooper.

Prior to his time as a full-time coach at Texas A&M, Hill was a graduate assistant strength / defensive line coach with Barrett Murphy at Nicholls State University in 1981. In 1982 at Auburn University, Hill served as a graduate assistant strength coach with Virgil Knight, where he received his master’s degree studying under Dr. Mike Stone. Hill started his coaching career in 1979-1980 as defensive coordinator at Cloverdale Junior High in Montgomery, Alabama, with head coach Skip Wolf.

As a player, Hill began his playing career as a linebacker at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, before receiving a scholarship to Marion Military Institute to play football and baseball for head coach Frank North. After two seasons, Hill transferred to Wichita State University with head coach Jim Wright and finished his playing career in 1978. Hill received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Auburn University at Montgomery and his Master’s of Science degree in exercise science from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.

Hill and his beautiful wife, Beata, reside in Hollywood, Florida.
