The University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles made a statement on the basketball court, jumping out to an early 9-0 lead and never looking back in a convincing 101-72 victory over South Florida Bible College.
The win marked a special milestone for the Eagles, as Head Coach David Graham picked up his first career victory at the helm of the UFTL men's basketball program.
UFTL set the tone early with aggressive defense, relentless pressure and balanced scoring. The Eagles forced an impressive 24 turnovers, disrupting the Rams' offensive rhythm throughout the contest.
Following the game, Coach Graham was quick to give credit to the people around him.
"I am so proud of my team and my coaches. They deserve all the credit."
It was truly a total team effort, with contributions coming from throughout the Eagles' lineup.
BALANCED SCORING AND STIFLING DEFENSE LEAD THE WAY
Jairon Speights led the charge with 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. His defensive pressure created problems for the Rams' guards all night, setting the tone for the Eagles on both ends of the floor.
Demarcus Forbes showed the results of a productive offseason. After spending the entire summer working on his game, Forbes delivered a strong performance with 15 points, seven assists and three steals.
Kahri Rodgers provided another outstanding all-around effort, finishing with 11 points, seven assists and three steals.
Juwan Dawes and Chad Anglin each contributed 10 points and six rebounds, giving the Eagles valuable production on both ends of the court.
The Eagles also received a major boost from their bench. Brandon Williams and Gabe Chang each chipped in 12 points, providing an offensive spark and helping UFTL maintain its advantage.
Jagger Ruiz rounded out the balanced effort with five points and five assists, continuing the team's unselfish approach.
EAGLES LOOK TO BUILD ON OPENING VICTORY
For Coach Graham and the Eagles, this victory represents more than just a number in the win column. It is the beginning of a new chapter for UFTL men's basketball.
The combination of defensive intensity, unselfish basketball and contributions from multiple players gives the Eagles plenty of reasons to be encouraged moving forward.
UFTL will now look to carry that momentum on the road when the Eagles travel to face Embry-Riddle on November 2nd.
One game, one milestone, and the first victory of the David Graham era. The Eagles are ready to keep soaring!
