We sat down with University of Fort Lauderdale Track star,
Ky-Juan Higgins for 5 Questions...
1) Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Higgins: "Usain Bolt is my all-time favorite athlete. He is a great example of someone who started from nothing and through hard work and consistency has reached the top of his profession. He is the reason I started track and field."
2) When you run the 200 & 400 Meters, is your approach the same?
Higgins: "I don't like running from behind so in both races I try and start fast in the first 90 meters. I prefer the 400 meters so anything I do in the 200 is just a bonus and a tune up for me to get ready for the 400 meters. The 400 is my passion. "
3) What have you learned being around Head Coach, Wilbert Johnson?
Higgins: "I have learned a lot from coach Johnson but the biggest thing has been to stay consistent and stay patient. Early on in track meets, I wanted to run fast and dominate. He told me to keep being consistent, keep working, be patient and
it will come. He was right. I have gotten so much better at the start of the season until now by being consistent and patient.
4) What is your goal after you finish school and graduate?
Higgins: " After college I want to go back home to Jamaica and qualify for the national team, get some sponsors and become a professional track and field runner."
5) After a successful track event what is your go to meal?
Higgins: Believe it or not... nothing fancy, I am a Chipotle guy. Love Chipotle!
