Wilbert Johnson was named the Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale in April 2024.
Johnson brings 20 plus years of collegiate coaching experience with 13 years as a head coach. Having the knowledge, enthusiasm, passion, and winning tradition will help the Eagles soar to the top.
Since being hired Johnson has hit the ground running with his tireless recruiting efforts.
Prior to being hired at the University of Fort Lauderdale, Johnson was the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Virginia State University whereas he made an immediate impact.

Prior to being hired at Virginia Union University Coach Johnson was an Assistant Coach at DI Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. He was instrumental in helping guide the team to many MEAC Conference Championships.

Coach Johnson is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated whereas he's been a member since 1988.
Johnson was no stranger to competition himself whereas he was a NATIONAL CHAMPION and ALL-AMERICAN in the 400 hurdles while competing at his Alma mater, Florida Memorial University in Miami, FL from 1987-1990.
Johnson was also a Florida High School STATE CHAMPION and ALL-AMERICAN in the 300 intermediate hurdles while at Blanche Ely high school in 1986. He was also the top county and regional champion in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault.
Johnson was born in Sanford, NC and raised in Pompano Beach, FL where he currently resides.
